Rant: The Bottom Line
As an amateur insomniac, I often like to fall asleep with the television tuned to dull, innocuous programming - falling asleep to Rambo, Cops, or War Stories is sure to incite a nightmare or two. I'm a big fan of QVC, but my husband claims he then "shops in his sleep."
Lately my stations of choice are CNN Headline News or Fox News Channel. Now, my theory of falling asleep with the TV is that the noise & light provides enough stimulation so I don't focus on the trillions of topics running through my head at any given moment. Lately, though, I've discovered something addictive about cable news channels... I can't stop reading the ticker. The information-packed lines of resolution entrap me and render the synapses connecting my brain and remote-controlling hands useless. So far I've found only one solution: commercials. That's right - when these stations run commercials, the ticker disappears. Life goes on...

also want to add that if plugging a computer into your brain were an option.... you would be the first to sign up! Just imagine all of the great information those tickers would provide 24/7. Being Borg can't be all that bad?!?
hmm... being plugged in = good. being the same as everyone else = bad!
