Sonic Teenager Deterrent
Police in the UK are beginning to use a device called the Sonic Teenager Deterrent. It omits 80 decibel pulses up to 16khz. Evidently this works because you lose the ability to hear these frequencies around the age of 20. The device costs ã622, approximately $1100 USD. UK shopowners use them to discourage loitering in front of stores. Sure it's called a teenager deterrent, but think of how much fun you could have with one of these in Disneyworld! The noise is supposed to sound like a "demented insect" or "badly-played violin."
