Rant: Rainbows
Listen up, everyone: Sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow. I know that the gay and lesbian movement has adopted the rainbow as its symbol, but why does this make the rainbow off limits for heterosexuals?
I like rainbows. They are cheery and bright and bold. I want to wear a shirt with rainbow colored stripes. I like rainbow beach umbrellas. I even enjoy looking at the prismatic rainbows in the sky. Other rainbow fans include Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon), PBS (Reading Rainbow), Hallmark (Rainbow Brite), and Arlen & Harburg ("Somewhere Over the Rainbow").
So, I'm asking you to get over it. Stop being so judgmental and homophobic. You should like rainbows, they're pretty. And admiring one or wearing one doesn't make you a homosexual. Now, putting a rainbow sticker on your car's bumper... You're on your own with that one.
